Name: Martin Gluth
Home: Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany
Best ever result: World Championships Eliminator 2014 – 5th (Elite)
Best ever race: The Horse Category Class race on the Olympic Course of 2012 at the Hadleigh Park in London. I finished there 6th in 2016 and 6th in 2017 as well. Both times I had a really good feeling and the gap to the winner was less than 2min. Definitely one of my favorite tracks.
Race/result you are most proud of: As a junior rider I won the Bronze Medal at the European Championships in Zoetermeer 2009. At this time I was the best German rider in my category. The following years in U23 category I had a lot of problems with my back and a big injury with my shoulder. BUT I never lost motivation riding my bike and fought back to my personal top level! What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger!
Strengths: Starts, short climbs, technical descents and the desire to succeed.
Some non-cycling accolades: Beside mountainbiking I studied industrial engineering and finished my Bachelor’s degree in February 2018. This year I am planning to continue with the Master studies. I really like to train my physical fitness also with other sports, such as xc-skiing and snowboarding.
The ultimate goal: My ultimate goal in sport are the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020.
Food: Italian Food
Book: I prefer sports magazines for books!
Possession: I wouldn’t call her a possession 😀 – But I love my girlfriend! She has my back and gives me a lot of positive energy.
Type of trail: fast and flowy
Riding conditions: I don’t care if it’s muddy, dry, hot or cold…but I always prefer sunshine!
Favorite place: Home is where your heart is. For me there is more than one favorite place, as long as I am traveling with the right people! All I need is a bike, good food and good weather.
What does it mean to you to be a part of OMX Pro Bike Team?
Having a professional team with great people around me at the races gives me the basis to perform at my personal best. I am really happy to race another year on Silverback bikes and can’t wait to check out the race tracks with the new team members.
