Role at OMX:
Co founder of Orange Monkey Pro Team & Owner/Director at OMX Pro Bike Team
Experience: At the age of 11 my sister & brother in law (who was into cycling) decided to take me to a Marshalls Cycles mountain bike race. Having grown up watching & following the TDF with my step father, Mountain Biking was the extreme fun version!
At the age of 19 whilst discussing the future of our local bike shop, Paul & I came up with the idea of starting our own team. Can we become Pro, can we improve XC in the UK & can I win races? These were our first visions for Orange Monkey.
5 seasons ago we became a professional team on the UCI circuit. We have learnt as we go, it has not been easy!
Proudest professional moment: There are several times throughout the last 10 years which come to mind:
Watching the Olympic Mountain Bike race in Essex at London 2012.
Mariske Strauss finishing 5th at the Norway World Cup.
Chris Andrews on the start line at Dalby World Cup, our first as a team.
Best result: 11th U23 National Championships (When I did once race)
Favourite race: It has changed in recent times – Czech World Cup.
Food: Steak (rare)
Book: Pride & Prejudice
Possession: First edition made, Tissot digital watch
Type of trail: One with a bike under me.
Riding conditions: Sun, Rain & Snow!
Favourite place: Home
What does it mean to you to be a part of OMX Pro Bike Team?
To be a part of something so big that will change Mountain Bike XC in the UK is amazing. To see so many people working on this who share our passion is humbling. OMX is the real deal when it comes to racing and I can’t wait to see that as the seasons progress.
