Role at OMX: Head Mechanic

Experience: Cycling has played a big part in my time on this planet thus far, from riding with mates at school, to racing at a decent-ish level and on to working in the industry in since leaving education. I’ve worked in some great shops during this time but it was whilst at North West Mountainbike centre my interest was peaked towards a race mechanic role. The 2015 season was both my first season with OMX and my first full World Cup season.

Proudest professional moment: It was a special moment when Martin and Fabian took the win at last year’s Cape Epic Prologue. Seeing any rider you’ve worked with perform well gets me stoked though, its something really special as a mechanic to play a part in that.

Bike bits

Best result: 3rd overall, U23 National Trophy cyclocross series 2012; think I got 5th that year at MTB Champs as well.

Favourite race: Bontrager Twentyfour12 – I’ve got so many great memories from this 24hr race over the years that it still ranks at the top of my list. Last year we were lucky enough to be at the Champions race though and that really is a cool event.

Food: Steak off the BBQ, doesn’t get much better

Book: my french phrase book, learning a new language is hard!

Possession: Aeropress

Type of trail: Flowy woodland single track that runs straight into the pub car park!

Riding conditions: Dry and dusty

Favourite place: The mountains, or sat around a campfire with friends

What does it mean to you to be part of OMX pro bike team? Being part of OMX again this year means an opportunity to build on the successes of 2015. It’s continuing to work closely with some great companies to put the riders on fast bikes, and it’s about having a good time doing so.
