Name: Imogen Buick
Home: Kaatsheuvel, The Netherlands / Norwich, UK
Role at OMX
Experience: Working with OMX will be my first appointment as a sports masseuse, but I know the team well and I have a lot of experience in and around professional cycling as a whole. So far my massage work has included looking after my boyfriend (Michiel van der Heijden) at home and keeping Anna (my sister, and OMX’s Press Officer) from being too wonky!
Proudest professional moment: Probably passing my practical Sports Massage exams. I did my study in my second language (Dutch) so passing first time with good grades meant a lot to me.
Best result: I’ve won a British National Cyclocross race and finished 18th in a few MTB World Cups as a junior. Nothing hugely spectacular but I had so much fun racing and that’s definitely the most important for me!
Favourite race: Paasbike Nieuwkuijk, my ‘local’ race in The Netherlands or Nove Mesto World Cup – in 2014 I really had to fight to finish that race after crashing at the start. Maybe also Albstadt World Cup 2014, that was fun too… too many good places to choose from!!
Food: A good burger with all the toppings or my Dad’s homemade pizza.
Book: ‘Oorlogswinter’ by Jan Terlouw
Possesion: My cuddly baby elephant, he comes on all my adventures! And my kettle.
Type of trail: A really sweet technical DH section with rocks and roots.
Riding conditions: Sunshine and company.
Favourite place: Home, whether in the UK or NL – after being away it always feels nice to go home to family or my boyfriend.
What does it mean to you to be a part of OMX Pro Bike Team?
For me working with OMX is a great opportunity to grow as a soigneur and masseuse. Being away with the team means I get much-needed experience while also being in an atmosphere and places that I Iove.
I’m really excited to be working with some super athletes and being able to help them perform and recover.
